Bendigo Medical Centre provides medical consultations by appointment only.

We will endeavour to make the appointment for your preferred doctor at a time that suits you. Alternatively, should your doctor not be available, we will offer you an option to see one of our other doctors.

About Us

Bendigo Medical is a fully accredited practice owned and operated by local General Practitioners.  Our practice provides practice management services to our associate Doctors who operate as their own sole provider businesses.

Our experienced team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff strive to deliver the highest standard of primary care to this growing region, with two fully integrated sites in Bendigo and Epsom.

We have a strong focus on the doctor-patient relationship, and are committed to providing you and your family your personal and professional medical care.



Bendigo Medical Centre Internet and email policy

Introduction
Bendigo Medical Centre recognizes the practice team requires access to email and the internet to assist in the efficient and safe delivery of healthcare services to our patients. Bendigo Medical Centre supports the right of staff to have access to reasonable personal use of the internet and email communications in the workplace using the devices and networks provided by the practice.

Purpose and objectives
This policy sets out guidelines for acceptable use of internet and email by the practice team, contractors and other staff of Bendigo Medical Centre. Internet and email are provided primarily to assist the team carry out their duties of employment.
Scope
This internet and email policy applies to the practice team, contractors and other staff of Bendigo Medical Centre who access the internet and email on practice owned devices, including, but not limited to desk phones, laptops, and desktop computers, to perform their work.

Use of the internet by the practice team, contractors and other staff is permitted and encouraged where this supports the goals and objectives of Bendigo Medical Centre. Access to the internet is a privilege and the practice team, contractors and other staff must adhere to this policy.


All employees are required to confirm they have understood and agree to abide by this email and internet policy. 

Policy content
The practice team, contractors and other staff may use the internet and email access provided by Bendigo Medical Centre for:

• any work and work-related purposes
• limited personal use
• more extended personal use under specific circumstances (see below)

Limited personal use of email and internet

Limited personal use is permitted where it:

• is infrequent and brief use
• is done on break times or before/after you have clocked on
• does not interfere with the duties of the practice team, contractors and other staff
• does not interfere with the operation of the practice
• does not compromise the security of the practice
• does not impact on the practice electronic storage capacity eg movies or music files
• does not decrease the practice network performance (eg large email attachments can decrease system performance and potentially cause system outages)
• does not incur any additional expense for the practice
• does not violate any legislation
• does not compromise any confidentiality requirements of your general practice

Examples of what is considered reasonable personal use could include:

• conducting a brief online bank transaction
• paying a bill
• sending a brief personal email

Unacceptable internet and email use

The practice team, contractors and other staff may not use internet or email access provided by Bendigo Medical Centre to:

• creating or exchanging messages that are offensive, harassing, obscene or threatening (this includes the use of the internal messaging system within Best Practice (F8))
• visiting web sites containing objectionable (including pornographic) or criminal material
• exchanging any confidential or sensitive information held by your general practice
• creating, storing or exchanging information in violation of copyright laws
• using internet-enabled activities such as gambling, gaming, conducting a business or conducting illegal activities
• creating or exchanging advertisements, solicitations, chain letters and other unsolicited or bulk email
• playing electronic or online games in work time.

Email communications with patients

Emailing patients with clinical information is discouraged. There are occasions when a patient requests information be sent via email. On these occasions consent must be obtained and recorded in the patient record prior to the email being sent. Information is provided in an attachment which is using a verified email address (ie their address on Best Practice) the attachment/document must have password protection. Password provided by another channel i.e. In person, phone or SMS. The password must be kept on the patient file with the consent recording.

    Test Results

        If your doctor has requested that you have tests you will need to make an appointment at a time suggested by the doctor, to review the results of your tests. If the results of the tests are deemed urgent or non urgent you will be contacted by Bendigo Medical and asked to come and see your doctor.

    Communication Assistance

        If you require an interpreter for your consultation or you have a communication impairment, you can arrange with our staff prior to your appointment to have the necessary assistance available to you at the time of you consultation. Please ensure that staff are aware of this at the time you make your appointment.

    Returning Calls

        If you wish to speak to the doctor over the phone, a nurse will triage your call. The nurse will speak to the doctor who will either take your call or call you back at an appropriate time or advise the nurse on an appropriate course of action.

    Complaints

        If you wish to make a formal complaint you can call the health services commissioner complaints and information on 1800 136 066.

    Home Visits

        Patients can access home visits by discussing this with their GP.


        Any out of surgery visits will be updated in your electronic patient record via remote access into the Clinical Information System.


        Where in-care home is required and a home or other visit is neither safe or reasonable, telephone advice is given. If required Ambulance services are utilised.
